If you've ever ordered hot chocolate while in Italy, you might have been surprised by what you received. Unlike traditional American hot chocolate, Italian cioccolato caldo is very thick and rich, almost like actual melted down chocolate. It's any chocolate lover's dream and today we're breaking it down for you so you can whip up your own cozy cioccolato caldo at home!
What you'll need:
- 1 cup chopped chocolate or chocolate chips
- 4 tbsp. sugar
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tsp. corn starch
- 2 tbsp. butter
In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in corn starch until both ingredients fully combine.
Increasing the heat to medium, stir in sugar and milk and bring mixture to a boil.
Once your mixture has thickened, add in your chocolate and allow all ingredients to melt together, stirring continuously.
Once all ingredients are blended, serve hot and enjoy!
