Today we have a little something for your sweet tooth — an authentic panna cotta recipe! If you've ever had homemade panna cotta, you'll know that this traditional Italian custard from the Piedmont region of Italy is rich and always hits the spot. "Panna cotta" means "cooked cream" in Italian and we'll see why in this recipe!
This recipe makes 8 servings!
What you'll need:
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 envelope unflavored gelatin
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/3 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp. cold water
Sprinkle gelatin over water in a small saucepan and let it soften for one minute. Heat on low until the gelatin dissolves, then remove the pan from heat.
Take a larger saucepan, and add your cream, half and half, and sugar and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Make sure to stir constantly. Remove your pan from the heat and add in the gelatin mixture and your vanilla extract.
Set out your eight 1/2 cup ramekins and divide your mixture across them. Cover and chill ramekins overnight.
Add some fresh berries and/or fresh fruit on top and buon appetito!
