This one is for all the spicy food lovers out there — it's a hot arrabbiata sauce! For those that don't know, "arrabbiata" means "angry" which in this case refers to the spiciness of the sauce. This is a pretty easy sauce to throw together, and it's super flavorful so it's a great option for the next time you're craving red sauce! This recipe will make about six servings and will take about 30 minutes to prepare.
What you'll need:
- 2 cans peeled and diced tomatoes
- 2 tbsp. tomato paste
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp. chopped parsley
- 1 tbsp. chopped fresh basil
- 1/3 cup red wine
- 1 tsp. olive oil
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice
- 1 tbsp. white sugar
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
- salt and fresh ground pepper to taste
In a large saucepan, saute onion and garlic in oil over medium heat until onions are tender.
Add in tomato paste, lemon juice, tomatoes, seasoning, red pepper flakes, basil, sugar and wine and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes.
Add in parsley and pour over the pasta of your choice!
