Today we have a favorite at any Italian family gathering and that is the cheesy and delicious baked ziti! Baked ziti does not have to be so difficult to prepare, and this recipe will make about 12 servings so it's another great option for a family dinner. Let's start cooking!
What You'll Need:
- 2 jars of Capa di Roma marinara sauce
- 3 tablespoons Capa di Roma EVOO
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 lb. ziti
- 1.5 lbs. mozzarella cheese (grated)
- 2 eggs
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 large onion
- 1 can whole tomatoes
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 lb. container of ricotta cheese
- 3 tbsp. chopped parsley
- 2 tbsp. Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp. of red pepper flakes
- salt and black pepper to taste
: Mince your garlic and chop your onion and place into a pot with oil over medium heat for a few minutes until soft. Add the ground beef and stir until it is all browned.
: Add your tomatoes, marinara sauce, Italian seasong, red pepper flakes and a pinch of salt and black pepper and stir. Let simmer for about 30 minutes.
: Move 3 cups of your cooked sauce to a separate bowl and while it cools, start to boil water in a separate pot for your ziti. It is important to only cook the ziti for a few minutes so that it remains a bit hard since it cooks further in the oven. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
: In a new bowl, combine your parmesan cheese, ricotta cheese, 2 cups of mozzarella, parsley, eggs, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Drain your pasta and add it to this bowl. Mix all ingredients and add the cooled sauce.
: In a large casserole dish, make a layer of pasta and cover with sauce and a layer of sprinked mozzarella chese. Repeat. Bake for 20 minutes.
